Why I Became a Wedding Officiant

As a single mother, I watched my daughter marry her high school sweetheart five years ago. Like so many brides, she experienced frustration and overwhelm trying to plan the “perfect” wedding. In the end, she decided to simplify: they said their vows at the Beverly Hills Courthouse, then celebrated with family and friends at a restaurant just up the street. Even on a rainy day, with heartfelt vows, a photographer, and the people who mattered most — it was beautiful, memorable, and full of love.

Recently, one of her closest high school friends, Naomi, chose the same path and asked me to officiate her wedding in Santa Barbara. It was an incredible day, filled with joy and laughter. Moments like these are why I became a wedding officiant — because I love helping people create happy, stress-free memories.

I’ve always been about service, whether in human resources, real estate, or notary work. But being a wedding officiant brings me the most joy — because in a world that can feel heavy, we need more love, celebration, and connection.
